AFTER THE STORM

A short film project, supported by Creative Ireland, Screen Ireland Actor as Creator fund, Clare County Council, Axis, Ballymun and Droichead Arts Centre.
Helen and Kari are the only adults in a community of young people and children. Set sometime in an uncertain future where social structures have disappeared, we see their daily tasks and way of living play out with tenderness. But these two women are tasked with passing on the knowledge of how to survive, because when the storm comes these kids will need to make it on their own.
After The Storm will provide hope, a vision of nature as teacher, and a prompt to not wait until the storm arrives to start acting in defence of future generations.

DIRECTOR'S NOTE
The Climate Crisis makes it difficult to imagine the future. But imagining the future is exactly what we need to do to re-define our values, our idea of community and to begin to understand what things might be like for the coming generations.
Scientists project that Ireland may be one of the last remaining safe locations on a rapidly changing planet - but what will that mean?
Who will survive? What are the resources available?
After The Storm is a future allegory that imagines the act of mothering of the children who have yet to be born. In Helen and Naoimh we see two women faced with the impossible understanding that they must do what they can, while they can and that time is all too short.
